Cycling: Falcons polish their line-up with signing
EDINBURGH Falcons cycle speedway team have swooped to strengthen their squad for next season with the signing of Polish teenager Robert Bandosz, writes COLIN RENTON.
The 19-year-old joins the Capital team from ZKS Zielona Gora, where he was a regular in the top side during the season which has just ended, helping earn promotion to the Polish Extraliga.
Bandosz first came to the attention of the Falcons at the 2008 European Championships in Poland when Scottish team manager and Falcons stalwart Gavin Kennedy spotted him riding a bike bearing the Scottish saltire.
Club spokesman Tommy Lee said: "It transpired that Bandosz had family links to Scotland and he moved to Airdrie recently to commence a college course."
Bandosz will boost the line-up for the Redbraes Park outfit, which already has Scottish internationals Craig Newsome, Mikey Hewitson and Jake Slight on its books.
Meanwhile, the club is staging an open session at the home track on Sunday, November 1, with the aim of uncovering new talent.
The session gets underway at 1.00pm, and is open to all ages. The club will supply all essential equipment.
