Cycling: Croall on a roll in title chase
CAPITAL cyclist Bruce Croall is on course for his fourth successive DHL Meadowbank National Track League title after reaching the half-way point in the current campaign with a comfortable lead.
The City of Edinburgh man had another fruitful outing in the tenth round of the competition with wins in the 12-lap scratch and the Keirin.
As a result, he is 22 points clear of his nearest pursuer David Martin (Bicycleworks.com), who remains in contention for the title after he posted a victory in the Devil take the Hindmost and placed third in the Keirin and 12-lap scratch events.
And, with another City of Edinburgh rider Nicky Hall just eight points adrift of Martin, the outcome is far from being a foregone conclusion.
The women's league is more competitive, with Daisy Sherwood (City of Edinburgh) being hotly pursued by Alison Chisholm (Edinburgh RC) and Louise Haston (unattached).
Meanwhile, a new name is set to go on the youths' trophy, with Angus Gillies (Peebles CC) heading Adam Stobbart (Edinburgh Racers) and Sean Noon (Edinburgh RC).
