Cycling: City quartet in gear with fund

Four cyclists from the City of Edinburgh club will receive financial assistance to support their career development after being named on a list of 11 riders partially funded by the Braveheart Cycling Fund charity.

Among those on the plan are established stars Callum Skinner – the current British senior champion – John Paul, who holds the Scottish title, and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Charline Joiner.

They are joined by Katie Archibald, who created a massive stir when she beat world junior road race champion Lucy Garner to win the British junior pursuit title in her first full year of racing.

The quartet will be given help towards the cost of travel to train and race as they build up to next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Others who will benefit from the backing of the charity, which was set up more than a decade ago to help young Scots achieve their potential, are road riders Kayleigh Brogan and Eileen Roe, who formerly competed in the City of Edinburgh
colours but are now signed to the Breast Cancer Charity Cycling team, and the
Borderers Grant Ferguson and Lucy Grant.

Edinburgh Road Club will also receive funding to help develop youth and junior riders.
