Curran’s double lifts Lily into the semi-finals

EASTHOUSES LILY came from two goals behind to beat Preston Athletic 5-2 and earn themselves a place in the semi-finals of the SFA South Region Challenge Cup.

Craig Manson and Craig Scott gave Preston an early lead before goals from Ryan Curran (2), Neil Ferry, William Kidd and David Beattie saw Easthouses through.

Spartans also progressed to the semi-finals with a 2-0 victory at City Park against Lothian Thistle with strikes from Robbie Manson and Alex King. Edinburgh University had Swedish striker Peder Beck-Friis to thank as his two goals in the first half helped the students to a 3-1 win against Edinburgh City.

Scott MacFarlane scored their third goal while Dougie Gair netted City’s consolation.

Dalbeattie Star beat Selkirk 3-0 to maintain their lead in the Premier Division although they are being hotly pursued by Heriot-Watt University who beat bottom club Peebles 5-0 and last year’s leagur champions Whitehill Welfare returned from at rip to the Borders with a 3-1 victory over Coldstream.

Gretna 2008 scored two late goals to protect their 100 per cent record when they beat Eyemouth United 3-2 while First Division leaders Gala Fairydean were held to a 3-3 draw with Tynecastle.

Vale of Leithen edged Ormiston 1-0, while Civil Service Strollers thumped struggling Hawick Royal Albert and Craigroyston overcame Kelso United 3-0.
