Curling: Scots face fight for final place

Scotland lost out to favourites and hosts Canada, going down by 2-5 in their play-off at the Ford World Men's Curling Championship in Regina, Canada, and last night had to beat either Sweden or Norway, who played in the other play-off game, in the semi-final to win through to today's final.

Two Scottish mistakes contributed to the defeat. Scottish skip Tom Brewster had an uncharacteristic complete miss with his last stone of the ninth end to give Canada an unassailable 5-2 lead.

Afterwards, Brewster was more angry than disappointed. He said: "I hope we have a chance to get back at these guys. We played some good curling there, and we learned a lot. I took too much ice and it straightened out on the frost."
