Cricket: More woe for Steindl's Scots
SCOTLAND's World Cup qualifying campaign finished in further ignominy as they lost to Afghanistan by 89 runs in the competition's fifth/sixth-place play-off at Willowmoore Park in Benoni.
Peter Steindl's side had also lost to the Afghans at the Super Eight stage two games ago.
And a disappointing campaign deteriorated further with yet another defeat as Afghanistan, 295 for eight, beat the Scots – who were dismissed for 206.
Afghanistan's final total was effectively six an over and proved too much for Scotland.
Neil McCallum scored 25 from 33 deliveries to offer some hope, but he was given out lbw and, after that, Afghanistan took control.
There was a late flurry through final pairing John Blain and Gordon Drummond, but, with ten overs still in hand, Blain was finally bowled for 41, having shared a 63-run partnership with Drummond, who was left undefeated on 25.
