Cricket: Holy Cross! Robin is the hero in victory over Watsonians

ROBIN WORSNOP was the key performer for Holy Cross in a tight win over Watsonians II at Arboretum in the East League Division One.

The veteran swing bowler took 4-10 as Watsonians were bundled out for 136 in their 35 allotted overs in damp conditions.

Ben Fox, with 72 was the mainstay of the Watsonian innings but only Tim Boorman with 17 gave him meaningful support.

Despite a late collapse, the home side passed the target with 15 balls and three wickets to spare. Home captain Euan Smith top-scored with 32 and Dougie Russell made 21 as Holy Cross avenged their ten-wicket defeat in the Presidents Trophy Final in May.

Fauldhouse maintained their league leadership as they overcame Edinburgh Accies. Skipper Derek Allan led the way with 81 with support from his brother David (45) and Shahid Ali (52) as the home side made 215 for 9. Despite 77 from Aussie Mitch Brown and 42 from Phil Taylor, Accies fell 25 short. For Fauldhouse, 15-year-old James Mildren was the star with the ball, taking 4-22.

The other First Division games between Glenrothes and Carlton II, Murrayfield/ Dafs and Heriots II, and Largo and Boroughmuir all fell victim to the weather.

In Division Two, Neil Granger took 5-32 and Stuart MacGregor scored 56 as Marchmont completed a ten-wicket win over struggling Livingston.

Despite 83 from Blain Forrester in 236-4, Freuchie II were defeated by Edinburgh II who reached their target with 9 wickets down.
