SALTIRES look set to complete their final YB40 campaign without an overseas star after Tom Latham was recalled by New Zealand.

The young Kiwi batsman made just three appearances during his short stint and failed to make a major impact, top-scoring with 30. However, his absence deprives the squad of a player of genuine international class.

The Scots head to the Oval on Sunday for their final away fixture against Surrey and complete their campaign with a triple header at Titwood the following week.

Officials are unlikely to seek a replacement overseas player at this stage of the season but Latham’s departure could pave the way for Australian-born ‘Scot’ Hamish Gardiner to earn his first call-up.

Glamorgan all-rounder Ruaidhri Smith, controversially banned from Scotland’s U19 World Cup qualifying campaign which starts on Saturday, could play for the senior side as they seek their first win of the summer against county opposition.
