Scotland’s cricketers set for unofficial Australia Test
The Scottish Saltires are set to face Australia at the Grange
SCOTLAND’s cricketers are being lined up to face Australia in an unofficial Test match.
The four-day game next June will help the Aussies warm up for their Ashes series in England later in the summer. Australia’s side could feature established Test stars such as former captain Ricky Ponting and former Saltires overseas player Ed Cowan. Other Test players such as Phil Hughes and Peter Siddle could take part while the Australian one-day specialists are competing in the Champions Trophy.
Cricket Scotland chief executive Roddy Smith said: “We are waiting for final confirmation from Cricket Australia but we’re confident the game will be going ahead. It will be a tremendous occasion to host so many of Australia’s leading players for a four-day game and obviously a great test for our own guys.”
The match, pencilled in for 7-10 June, is likely to be staged at the Citylets Grange in Edinburgh, where the Australians will return for an ODI in September.
