MacLeod strikes to take Uddingston to victory
UDDINGSTON carved-out a tense win over Group C rivals Watsonians to keep their Super Sixes hopes alive at the National Academy. Saltires all-rounder Calum MacLeod struck with two vital wickets to ensure the Edinburgh side fell 14 runs short.
Earlier, MacLeod’s brother Alan hit 33 not out and Amir Gul 34 not out as the Bothwell men recovered from defeat against Edinburgh University to post 136-4.
However, it is the students who hold the advantage going into next month’s second round of matches after securing wins over both their group rivals. Scotland U19 star Aman Bailwal was their star player, top-scoring twice.
Forfarshire all-rounder Bailwal, who will take part in the Youth World Cup later this year, hit 31 not out in a crushing 68-run win over ‘Sonians.
And he remained unbeaten, this time with 44, as the University eased to a 29-run win over Uddingston.
The students, tournament winners in 2003, need just one more win to secure their semi-final berth, but Uddingston can deny them if they claim two victories.
