First division cricket: Sheridan turns on the ‘old’ magic for Poloc
SELF-CONFESSED “old fossil” Keith Sheridan marked his first league appearance for more than two years by playing a major part in Poloc’s crucial West Zone First Division win against Kelburne at Shawholm.
The former Scotland spinner claimed three cheap wickets to pave the way for the tense seven-run success. And he admitted: “It was a really important match, so they wheeled out the old fossil.
“I will feel a wee bit sore because I have had hardly any bowling, but it was very enjoyable.”
Steve McLister had shone with the ball for the Paisley outfit as he took six for 18, curbing Poloc to 116. But Sheridan’s three dismissals helped to dispose of Kelburne for 109 with an over left.
The other winners in the division were Renfrew and Weirs at the expense of Stenhousemuir and Ferguslie respectively.
In the Eastern section, Fauldhouse completed the county derby double over West Lothian, while Freuchie bucked form by hammering Falkland.
Braydon Tracey struck yet another century to inspire SMRH against Penicuik at Kirkhill. And at Newfield, Corstorphine beat Edinburgh Accies.
Yesterday’s Scottish Cup semi-finals – Carlton versus Heriot’s and Watsonians versus Stenhousemuir – were washed out.
