Cricket: Weather wins the day as Scotland left frustrated

SCOTLAND’s Intercontinental Cup clash with Canada looks doomed to be abandoned without a ball bowled after yesterday’s play was washed out.

Despite sunny conditions at Bothwell Castle Policies, Uddingston, no play was possible on the third day of the three-day encounter after water seeped under the covers.

And, with further torrential rain forecast for today, it seems certain that the sides will have to settle for ten points apiece.

It looked as if the match would
finally get under way yesterday
morning when the umpires called an 11:30am inspection.

However, just before the officials were due to have a look a further downpour dashed hopes of play.

Saltires coach Pete Steindl admitted: “We’re not complaining about the umpires’ decision.

“There is a damp patch where
water got under the covers and that is causing concern. But we have had our best outdoor training session for a while on the outfield which is in great condition.

“I’ve heard the forecast isn’t good, but I don’t bother looking at it. We’ll just wait and see what tomorrow brings.”

Scotland’s last home I-Cup match to suffer a complete washout was the 2008 clash with Kenya at Titwood, Glasgow.
