Cricket: Drummond calls for more magic

GORDON Drummond has called on the Saltires to recapture the magic that saw them outplay Bangladesh.

The national skipper masterminded one of Scotland’s best ever results 12 days ago. He then missed Sunday’s CB40 humbling by the Welsh Dragons in Cardiff, but returns for the visit of Durham tomorrow.

The Scots will bid to end a sequence of ten defeats stretching back to 2004 against the Chester-le-Street outfit when they go into action at Bothwell Castle Policies. They are also on an unenviable run of six straight defeats in this season’s CB40 competition.

Drummond believes his side can take heart from their historic first official win over a Test-playing nation. He said: “Consistency has been our problem all season but there is no reason why we shouldn’t play like we did against Bangladesh. That was our most complete performance of the season and we can do it again..”

Clydesdale pace bowler Safy Sharif is in line for his first start of the season after recovering from rib and knee injuries.

Durham yesterday beat an Australia A side featuring former Saltires professionals George Bailey and Ed Cowan.

Scotland: G Drummond capt, J Davey, C MacLeod, J Symes, R Berrington, P Mommsen, R Flannigan, M Haq, C Wallace, G Goudie, A Evans, S Sharif, E Chalmers.
