Cricket: Drama in last gasp win for Holy Cross

Holy Cross defeated Marchmont in the final over at Cavalry Park on Saturday in one of the most dramatic encounters in East One this summer.

Batting first, Marchmont made 193-8 from their allotted 50 overs, Matt Loeffen top scoring with 64 with the ball for Holy Cross. In reply, Charlie Ellis made 93 not out. Holy Cross reached their target of 194 with seven wickets down thanks to a bye on the second last ball of the day.

Leaders Glenrothes went down to Murrayfield DAFS, who made just 74 batting first, but then put in a superb all-round bowling performance to bowl the Fifers out for only 59.

Second placed Carlton II bounced back from last week’s shock loss to Largo to pip Grange II by three runs – 166 to 163.

Musselburgh bowled out Largo for 62, then got the runs required for the loss of just one wicket to clinch an easy victory.

In East Five, Preston Village posted 253-2 in 45 overs against Edinburgh South II, who then made 235-8 to just fall short in the chase.
