Cricket: Busy start for Cricket Scotland President Jack Ker
It’s been a frantic time for that redoubtable Borderer Jack Ker. Cricket Scotland’s newly-elected President is just back from a trip to Lord’s to accept on behalf of Cricket Scotland two prestigious Pepsi ICC Development Programme Awards, The European Best Junior Participation Initiative, and the Global Best Women’s Cricket Initiative.
It’s a clear indication that, notwithstanding the Saltires’ current travails, our national cricketing authorities are getting plenty right when it comes to our youth and women cricketers.
Next up for Ker was selecting his first President’s XI to take on a Perth Doo’cot XI to commemorate the formation of the new club, which it is earnestly hoped can herald a rejuvenation in the Big County’s cricketing fortunes. Sunday’s game was just one in this week’s all-embracing, six-day cricket festival at picturesque Doo’cot to mark the Gannochy Trust’s 75th Anniversary celebrations, in which more than 300 cricketers of all abilities, ages and stages will participate.
Ker brings an outstanding pedigree to the President’s office, having won 57 caps for his country between 1977 and 1988.
