Cricket: Aman Bailwal confident of quick recovery as Forfarshire regroup

FORFARSHIRE all-rounder Aman Bailwal has backed his side to bounce back in style to kick-start their Scottish Cup challenge.

But he knows even a victory over Freuchie on home turf may not be enough to prevent shock troops Stenhousemuir marching into the knock-out stages.

Bailwal and Co suffered a morale-denting defeat by West First Division Stenny last weekend and not only must the Broughty Ferry brigade stave off the Fifers, they must hope that the men from the Tryst come a cropper at Ayr.

Bailwal said: “Freuchie will always put up a strong challenge, but we are looking on the match as an opportunity to come back strongly in the wake of last week’s disappointment.

“We are heartened by the fact that we will be at full strength – with none of our lads swanning off to T in the Park!

“We also need to pick up some momentum ahead of the return to league duty later in the month. It has been a stop-start season for us. However, hopefully the weather will get better and we can find some rhythm.”

Shire’s neighbours, Arbroath, are also involved in a crucial group match against Prestwick at Henry Thow Oval.

Clydesdale, who square up to SMRH in Edinburgh, lead the section by two points from Arbroath, who themselves demolished the Inverleith outfit last time out.

Elsewhere, Watsonians aim to maintain their edge in Group A by beating Weirs at Myreside, while holders Uddingston need a win at home to Renfrew tomorrow to retain any chance of defending their crown.
