Mosul Christians

Last week the last Christians were driven from their homes in Mosul, a city where they have lived for almost 2,000 years. More than 30,000 people have been deprived of their property and even personal possessions by the Islamic state that has seized power in that part of Iraq.

They were given the option of converting to Islam, but have sacrificed everything for their faith. Yet there was no mention of them in the prayers of intercession at the church I attended on Sunday. Are consciences aroused only when tragedies are played out before television cameras?

If any reputable charity opens a fund to help these people – now penniless and dependent on the kindness of strangers in the Kurdish part of Iraq – I would be glad to subscribe.
