Clyde forced to axe 11 players
THE severity of Clyde's financial crisis became clear last night when 11 players were freed because the club has no cash to offer them new deals.
Gary McSwegan, Robbie Winters, Peter Cherrie, Stephen Connolly, Scott Gemmill, David Hutton, David McGowan, Jordan Murch, Craig O'Reilly, Gregory Tade and Marvyn Wilson have all been axed by chairman Ian Letham. The Bully Wee have also lost captain Neil McGregor, who has been offered a trial at Hamilton, while defender Chris Higgins has joined Dunfermline.
Following their relegation from the First Division, Letham has been forced to oversee drastic cost-cutting measures.
As well as terminating all full-time contracts, manager John Brown has been asked to take a pay-cut. Letham said: "The club have asked him (Brown] to look at his contract, we're talking to everybody about their costs."
