Scottish Cup holders Grove Menzieshill enjoyed a 6-1 win in Tayside over Edinburgh University in the Aberdeen Asset Management Men’s National League on Saturday.
Ollie James gave the home side the half-time advantage but a stunning triple save from Menzieshill’s goalkeeper Andrew Ross just before the interval perhaps proved to be a turning point.
Further goals came from Ben Cosgrove, Gavin Tomlinson, Ally Irvine, Adam Fallis and Mike Ross, with a Chris Duncan penalty stroke the visitors’ solitary reply.
Inverleith shared the spoils with AAM Gordonians at Peffermill, with the home side showing great resolve, coming back from a 2-1 half-time deficit and then finding themselves 4-2 down in the second-half, Adam Mackenzie playing a vital part with a second-half hat-trick.
Unfortunately for Inverleith, they were made to suffer yesterday, being on the end of a 7-2 defeat at the hands of Menzieshill. The home team never recovered after the loss of an early goal and found themselves three down by the break. Further goals were shared around by Menzieshill in the second period, with Patrick Christie and Adam Mackenzie on the mark for Inverleith.
Scottish champions Glynhill Hotel Kelburne began their defence of the title with a 6-0 trouncing of Dundee Wanderers at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre on Saturday.
Kelburne dominated and were two goals ahead by the interval with goals from Jack McKenzie and Mark Ralph. McKenzie completed his hat-trick, with further goals coming from Lee Morton and Andrew Duff.
However, yesterday, Western Wildcats gave the champions an indication that there is a lot of work to be done if they are to retain their title with a 4-2 win at Auchenhowie.
Wildcats found themselves four up, with doubles from Scott McCartney and Douglas Simpson. McAllister and Scott Sutherland scored for Kelburne.
The Women’s programme saw Watsonians grab a late equaliser to claim a share of the points in a thrilling 4-4 draw against Grange EL and CALA Edinburgh beat Western Wildcats 4-1 on the first day of the National League Big Weekend event at Peffermill.
