Cheltenham Festival news: Thornton 'to be OK' for Voy Por Ustedes ride
ROBERT Thornton is expected to be fit to partner Voy Por Ustedes in the Ryanair Chase today despite being stood down for part of Wednesday's Cheltenham card. Thornton suffered a heavy fall from Big Zeb in the Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Chase and after sustaining a nasty kick, he missed his final two rides of the day after being taken to hospital. His boss Alan King said: "He got a kick in the kidneys and they have taken him to hospital, but he looks like he is going to be OK.
Russell's 'anti-climax' at finishing runner-up
MILNATHORT-based trainer Lucinda Russell expressed disappointment at finishing only runner-up in the Coral Cup with Mirage Dore, as Ninetieth Minute scored for Ireland. "It's an anti-climax to be second," said Russell of the 14-1 shot, who finished a length and a half behind the Paddy Flood-ridden winner. "He was further back than we'd planned and Rose (Dobbin] did very well to get so close in the end. Our plan nearly worked out and he'll probably go to Aintree now."
