Changleng steps down

THE Scottish Rugby Union last night confirmed that Malcolm Changleng has quit as a professional referee.

The Borders whistler came under fire in December for his handling of Heineken Cup fixtures featuring Perpignan and London Irish, and Ulster and the Ospreys, and, while no-one from the European rugby Cup would confirm this had been a factor, he was dropped to the European Challenge Cup games this weekend and next.

The 38-year-old, who became a full-time referee with the SRU in 2002 has informed ERC that he was standing down and would not take on any more games at that level.
