Changing room chat: Trouble and strife at fall-out in Fife
EAST Fife huffed and puffed to a 3-1 win over Peterhead on Tuesday night, with the emphasis firmly on the huffing.
An article in the club programme turned out to be an open letter to supporters from the first team players - backed by the management - protesting at comments that have appeared on the forum of fans' website Away From The Numbers. Apparently, the squad had taken exception to several posts, particularly one titled 'Is Hislop the worst player ever?'
"We are concerned that some comments have crossed the thin line between strong criticism and personal attack," read the statement. "As a team, we firmly consider that some of the posts have become personal and damaging."
But not content with that, the players offered their critics a chance that many a football fan would snap up at 4.50pm on a Saturday. The statement continued: "We would like to invite any supporters who have concerns about team and individual performances to come to the dressing room either at training or after a match to discuss them with us."
And who opened the scoring that night? None other than Mr Steve Hislop - definitely not the worst player in the world.
