Changing room chat: Herne Hill set to get back on track
WORK will begin in the summer to restore Herne Hill velodrome, the last surviving venue from the 1948 Olympics. A 15-year lease agreement has been finalised for British Cycling to take over the Camberwell facility.
Potential closure had threatened the velodrome where Britain won four Olympic medals 63 years ago. Reg Harris took sprint silver and combined with Alan Bannister for the same medal in the tandem, while Tommy Godwin was third in the 1,000 metres time trial and added another bronze as part of the team pursuit quartet.
