Brian Ellison has his eyes on the Perth prizes

BRIAN Ellison has his eye on some Perth prize money with his three runners on the penultimate day of the season at the Scone Palace Park track.

The Malton trainer, currently at the sales in Ireland, has Palos Conti making his debut for the yard this afternoon in the GS Group Gallop Handicap (For The Duke Of Atholl Challenge Cup).

Ellison said: “We’ve only had him about a couple of months but he’s looks a decent type. He’s been working and schooling well and I’d say he should run a nice race. He has winning form in handicap chase company and he stays well enough.”

Palos Conti faces nine rivals in the £11,000 event, including course specialist Scotch Warrior, A P McCoy-ridden Qaspal, Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Rhum and Lucinda Russell pair Quito Du Tresor and Wild Geese.

Ellison’s day starts with it’s A Mans World in the Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer Claiming Hurdle and he added: “He’s won a novice hurdle over course and distance and at Cartmel and he’s in great form.”

The trainer’s trio is completed by jumps newcomer Estinaad in the Aberdeen & Glasgow PA Juvenile Hurdle. Ellison said: “He’s run well on his last two starts on the Flat. I think he will run well.”

Meanwhile, Paul Mulrennan’s injuries are believed to be not as bad as first feared following a fall at Hamilton on Monday, although he remains in Wishaw General Hospital. The jockey suffered concussion, broken ribs and a punctured lung when his mount Boxing Shadows clipped heels and came down in the Try A totetrifecta At totepool.com Handicap.

“I’ve spoken to his wife Adele and she says he’s in a bit of discomfort,” said Hamilton clerk of the course Hazel Peplinski.

“He’s got a deflated or a punctured lung and a couple of broken ribs on the left side, so they do have a chest drain in.

“He’s still a little confused because of the concussion, but he had a good night and is much happier.”
