Changing room chat: Hermann Maier gears up for South Pole
SKIING leghend Hermann Maier was never likely to slow down in retirement. After a career spent racing downhill at high speed, the former Olympic and world champion is off to the South Pole in December.
"It's a pretty exciting and unique adventure; it's also a great opportunity for me to do something really special and unforgettable," said the Austrian. Maier will compete against a German team in an event to mark the 100th anniversary of Norwegian Roald Amundsen becoming the first man to reach the South Pole.
