Celtic trial for Guzan sparks Boruc rumours

CELTIC manager Gordon Strachan will run the rule over American international goalkeeper Brad Guzan in training this week.

The Chivas player could cost the Parkhead club 1 million if he impresses during his spell in Scotland. The 23-year-old, who played in America's 2-0 friendly win over Sweden in Los Angeles during the early hours of yesterday morning, is now expected to fly to Glasgow.

The highly-rated goalkeeper, who has also been linked with Arsenal, said: "It's always exciting when a great club such as Celtic are interested in you. Of course, I know all about the club – they are a world-renowned team with a fabulous history."

Guzan has been capped five times by the US and was voted the best goalkeeper in the MLS this season. If Celtic want to make the move permanent, they will have to apply for a work permit as Guzan does not meet the strict Home Office requirements at the moment. That would mean a panel sitting to make the final judgment – as they did last week when they gave the go-ahead for Celtic to make a firm bid for Japan international Koki Mizumo.

If Guzan gets the green light, it will further fuel speculation that Artur Boruc could leave the club in the summer despite signing a lucrative extension to his contract only a fortnight ago. AC Milan have been continually linked with the Poland international and could be prepared to meet the 10million valuation.

Boruc's value could soar even further if he plays well during the European Championship finals in Austria and Switzerland this summer.
