Surgeons pay tribute to battling Bee Gee Robin Gibb

THE recovery of singer Robin Gibb, a member of the Bee Gees pop group, has “confounded” doctors after he awoke from his coma by responding to family.

The 62-year-old singer contracted pneumonia last week while battling against colon and liver cancer.

A statement released by doctors at the London Clinic, where Gibb is in intensive care, said that they had been amazed by his efforts.

The award-winning musician is said to have “responded extremely well” to treatments by his team of surgeons.

Dr Andrew Thillainayagam of Imperial College, Gibbs’ physician and gastroenterologist, said: “It is testament to Robin’s extraordinary courage, iron will and deep reserves of physical strength that he has overcome quite incredible odds.”
