Catriona Matthew misses cut

Scotland's Catriona Matthew missed the cut in the first women's major of the season after a second round 73 at the Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills in Palm Springs, California, writes Elspeth Burnside.

American Stacy Lewis, a star of the 2008 Curtis Cup at St Andrews, enjoyed a three shot lead on nine-under-par at halfway after posting rounds of 66 and 69. Matthew, 41, faced an uphill battle after an opening 79 and a couple of birdies on the second day weren't enough.

Meanwhile, Scotland's Kylie Walker moved into joint-ninth place after a third-round 71 at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco yesterday. Slovakia's Zuzana Kamasova set her sights on a first Ladies' European Tour victory after a 71 put her four shots clear of the field on six under par.

Walker's fellow Scot, Vikki Laing, tied fifth overnight, slumped to a 79 and dropped back into a tie for 31st place on seven over par. Lynn Kenny, the third Scot to make the cut, was on the same mark after a 71.
