Cash demands may force Arthur into rethink on opponent
Alex ARTHUR is contemplating a change of opponent for his bill-topping ten-round bout on his first-ever boxing promotion at Meadowbank on August 27.
Arthur was all set to face Krzysztof Szot but the fight is now unlikely to go ahead due to the Pole's cash demands.
Arthur revealed: "Negotiations have hit a snag after Szot asked for more money. I've refused this because without television money my first attempt at promoting boxing is being tightly budgeted. "I've opened up fresh negotiation with Georgian lightweight Aleksander Vakhtangashivili, who has won eight of his 12 pro fights.''
Meanwhile, Arthur has revealed that ring legend Joe Calzaghe - who previously promoted two shows himself - has cautioned him over his move into boxing promotion. "Joe told me without TV money it's very difficult to get to a high level in boxing promotion. Calzaghe also warned me about fighters pulling out of fights and fighters wanting more money. But I still want to run my own successful shows in the Capital."
