Capital presence for showcase clash

THREE players and two coaches from the Edinburgh Wolves have been selected for the North team in the annual North-South gridiron showcase game to be played tomorrow at the Moor Lane Pavilion, Birmingham.

Running back David Molloy, defensive back Campbell Lewis and defensive lineman Paul Jeffreys have been selected to play whilst David Molloy and Pete Larsen will be among coaches from around the league coordinating the game from the sidelines.

Molloy, 24, from Edinburgh was the Wolves leading rusher this past season gaining 692 yards on 148 carries with three touchdowns which ranked 9th nationwide. His 938 combined yards led the Wolves offensively.

Lineman Jeffreys, 29, was among the Wolves defensive leaders registering 36 total tackles and one sack for a loss of 14 yards. He was also credited with 15 quarterback pressures, 2nd on the team.

Defensive Back Lewis, 21, registered 13 tackles and two interceptions but it is his dual threat - he also played wide receiver this season and his future potential that has been recognised by the call up to the showcase game.

Wolves general manager Douglas Adamson commented on the selections: "It is great for the entire Wolves organisation that these players have been chosen to represent the team in such a prestigious event.

"2003 was the Wolves’ first season of competitive football and to gain three selections to the North-South game is a tremendous achievement. Full credit to the guys who have come on leaps and bounds this season."

On the sidelines David Molloy takes on the position of offensive coordinator, one of the top-tier coaching jobs, for the squad. Pete Larsen will assist on the defensive side of the game as linebackers coach.

The Wolves were the only Scottish team to send players to this game.
