Caithness clinches first professional title

ROOKIE Krystle Caithness shot rounds of 69, 67 and 70 to claim her first professional victory at the inaugural Shaikh Maktoum Dubai Ladies Pro Am at the Emirates Club.

Tied for the lead going into the final round with England’s Sophie Walker, the Scot finished on 13-under-par 206 and was three shots ahead of the Welsh Solheim Cup player, Becky Brewerton

Caithness, who has already earned around 36,000 in her first year on the Ladies’ European Tour, clinched the winner’s cheque of 9,500 and is comfortably in the top 40 on the Order of Merit.

Next week, Caithness will compete in the Dubai Ladies’ Masters, an event that will be played over the same course and will have Scotland’s British Open Champion, Catriona Matthew, on the entry list. Matthew is second on the Order of Merit behind Swede Sophie Gustafson.

“I couldn’t have asked for better preparations ahead of next week’s Omega Dubai Ladies Masters,” said 20-year-old Caithness, from the St Regulus Club in St Andrews. “I am feeling pretty good about my game. I am driving the ball and putting well and am excited to see how things unfold next week.”
