Brewster will play only 'in emergencies'

CRAIG Brewster has revealed he will play only "in emergencies" next season after agreeing to become No 2 to Ross County manager Derek Adams.

Brewster was tempted into pulling on his boots again in February after being sacked as boss at Inverness, and the 42-year-old proved he could still make an impact in the First Division with three goals in ten appearances for County.

However, after taking up the offer to become assistant to Adams at Victoria Park, he said: "I'll probably only play in emergencies. I've extended and extended my career and I've thoroughly enjoyed it but it's someone else's turn now."

Chaplain deal shows Sons' big ambitions

DUMBARTON manager Jim Chapman has demonstrated the ambition the Sons have to make an impact in the Second Division by snapping up midfielder Scott Chaplain following his release from First Division Partick Thistle.

Chapman used to be Chaplain's manager when the pair were at Albion Rovers together and he is delighted to have his attacking threat on board. "Scott will do well for us," he said. "Getting someone of Scott's quality to come to Dumbarton is a measure of our ambition and I am delighted to have him at the Club."

The 26-year-old has signed a 12-month deal at the club.

St Mirren eye move for Rovers' Hodge

ST MIRREN could make a move for Blackburn Rovers midfielder Bryan Hodge after Hibs pulled out of a proposed move for the youngster.

The Scotland under-20 cap thought he was on his way to Easter Road this summer after apparently agreeing a deal with Mixu Paatelainen, however new Easter Road manager John Hughes has decided not to follow through on the Finn's interest in the 21-year-old.

Hodge is now expected to join up with St Mirren for pre-season training with a view to a possible move to the SPL.

Townsley extends Annan contract

ANNAN Athletic's assistant manager Derek Townsley has agreed another year-long deal as a player at Galabank. But goalkeeper Dougie Calder has left the Third Division club to join junior side Bellshill.

Berwick Rangers, meanwhile, have signed midfielder Chris McMenamin on a permanent deal after he impressed while on a season-long loan deal from Airdrie United last term.

And Brechin City defender John Ward is believed to be have agreed a deal to join up with former East Fife manager Dave Baikie at Linlithgow Rose.
