Brave Hornets fail to trouble Tweedmouth
HUTCHISON VALE HORNETS looked on as visiting English team Tweedmouth proved just too powerful in this under-14 Division Four game at Saughton Park.
The match got off to an explosive start with the home side almost opening the scoring in the second minute. Graham Robertson struck a lovely shot but Tweedmouth keeper, Aaron Grieve, matched the effort with an excellent save. Tweedmouth then went up the opposite end and, after some great footwork from Luke Dickson, he played in a great cross which was met by Daniel Tindle who slotted home to put the visitors ahead in this Lothian Buses South East Region Youth tie.
It took only another eight minutes before Tindle was back on the score sheet after the Vale defence failed to clear and he almost got his hat-trick a minute later with a near-miss. But his next goal was only delayed as in the 16th minute he made an excellent run to beat the offside trap and smashed the ball high above Talbot and into the back of the net.
Paul Rutherford then set up Tindle to grab his fourth of the game and Luke Dickson almost added another but Talbot saved well.
Vale did have a chance to grab one back before half-time when Robertson went through but he couldn't get a clean strike of the ball and lifted his shot into the keeper's hands.
However, the Capital side almost grabbed a goal immediately after the interval when a shot from Paul Sherin beat Grieve but crashed off the cross bar.
Tweedmouth went on to extend their lead after Cameron Laidlaw made a great run from the halfway line before passing to Paul Rutherford who slotted home from close range.
That was followed by another goal for Tweedmouth after Vale again failed to clear and handed Tindle his fifth of the day. Then Luke Dickson broke free and went through on goal to smash a shot into the net.
Sherin pulled one back for Vale after an excellent pass from Ross McLeod but Tindle got his sixth after a lovely ball played through to him by Oliver Black.
