Boxing: Young knows his future is on the line
GILMERTON'S Scottish welterweight title challenger Gary Young has vowed to bring back the 10st 7lb crown by beating his former boxing bosom buddy Gary McMillan.
The pair clash for the vacant title in Glasgow's Pavilion ballroom on 15 November and Young said: "The fact that McMillan and I were clubmates at Portobello and Gilmerton won't mean a thing when the bell goes. This is a make-or-break fight for me –if I lose my future will be bleak."
Young has been sparring with Aberdeen's Lee McAlilster in the north-east as part of McAllister's preparations for his fight against Charlie King for the Commonwealth title. He has also sparred heavily with Glasgow's former Scottish champion Darren McAdam who – like McMillan – is a top southpaw.
MIDLOTHIAN amateur boxing club will stage their first show of the season at Danderhall Miners club on Sunday (1.30pm). There will be ten bouts featuring Midlothian stars like middleweight Steve Morgan.
A squad from Whitehaven in Cumbria are also billed to appear.
