Boxing: Moffat hailed top golden boy
SCOTTISH international amateur boxing team manager Tom Brown has hailed Midlothian club youth flyweight Dylan Moffat for his gold-medal winning performance in Tampere, Finland, writes BRIAN DONALD.
Moffat secured a second-round stoppage victory over Estonian Damenar Nizamodwhich and Brown said: "Although no less than six of the Scottish team won gold medals in impressive fashion – including the Best Boxer in the Tournament award won by Glasgow featherweight Joe Ham – I was particularly pleased by the way Moffat handled his opponent in Finland. And Craigmillar's Jason Easton impressed too, in losing on points to Finland's Rille Nummin. Another eastern boxer, light-flyweight Bryce Stewart, also won gold by posting a 5-0 shut out against Sweden's Rejan Razzi."
Meanwhile, not to be outdone by their eastern counterparts in Finland, two local boxers won gold and silver medals for Scotland in Croatia at the weekend.
Gilmerton southpaw featherweight Josh Taylor won gold in the Croatian multi-nations tournament while Craigmillar lightweight Lewis Benson won silver.
