Boxing: Gilmour wins rights to next Ando clash

GLASGOW boxing promoter Tommy Gilmour has won the purse bids to stage Capital ace Kenny Anderson's British super-middleweight title eliminator in Glasgow early next year.

Anderson is set to face Sheffield's Paul David on January 18 at Gilmour's Burns Night promotion in the St Andrew's Sporting club.

Gilmour said: "It will be a tough fight for Kenny as David gave Steve McGuire (the Glenrothes boxer] a tough scrap at Kirkcaldy Ice Rink in 2006 before losing on points."

Anderson said: "I've been training hard in an English gym recently. I've seen Paul David on DVD and he is a tough opponent but I still think I will beat him."

Gilmour also predicted that South Queensferry-based Paul Appleby will bounce back from a recent injury.

He said: "To be honest, I think that Paul suffered a wee crisis of self-confidence after being stopped in Belfast by Martin Lindsay for his British title. But my message to him is that I've managed loads of boxers who bounced back big style for championship defeats to win or regain titles and I firmly believe that Paul will do just that."
