Boxing: Cancellations rile angry Anderson

KENNY Anderson, the Commonwealth Games gold medallist, says he is fed up having the rug pulled from under his feet. The 25-year-old super-middleweight, from Edinburgh, has been a victim of cancelled fights since making his pro debut in October 2006.

Anderson, who will bid to chalk up his eighth straight win against an as yet unnamed opponent on the bill of the Braveheart show at Paisley's Lagoon Leisure Centre on 18 October, spoke yesterday of his frustration.

He said: "A boxer is very much in control when he's in the ring, but when it comes to the politics and everything else that effects fights, you have absolutely no control.

"Shows being cancelled because of TV and because guys are injured is deeply frustrating.

"I had crisis meetings with Frank Warren because I'd had enough. If my career continued to go the way it has been I would be in big trouble because I can't afford to have six months between fights."
