Boxing: Arthur to make comeback on Anderson undercard
FORMER world champion Alex Arthur looks set to make his boxing comeback in Manchester in July on the undercard of fellow Capital fighter Kenny Anderson's British super-middleweight title fight.
Arthur and Anderson are now being promoted by Ricky Hatton and Anderson has been told to expect his fight with Liverpool's Tony Quigley to go ahead on Friday, 9 July at the MEN Arena.
Anderson said: "I'm looking forward to it and training accordingly. Alex Arthur is also being pencilled in for this bill but in the meantime I am coming north to have sparring sessions at the Tranent Bronx club gym this week with my old Scottish amateur team-mate Craig McEwan.
"We've sparred plenty in the past so I'm looking forward to renewing our scraps.''
On the club front, Lochend welterweight ace Tommy Philbin will clash with Fauldhouse's Scottish youth champion Robbie McKee, on the Midlothian club's dinner show bill at the Hilton Grosvenor hotel, Haymarket on Friday. Philbin is fresh after his fight last Sunday at Danderhall was cancelled following the withdrawal of his opponent.
The British Youth championships also take place on Friday in Kirkcaldy and Midlothian club coach Ally Quilleti is confident that his two British youth title contenders, light-flyweight Barry Hogg and flyweight Scott Brown, can bring medals and
Lochend coach Terry McCormack is upbeat about Liam Tervit's chances of adding a British light-flyweight title to his Scottish belt.
In the 1997 class, Craigmillar ligh-flyweight Joe Murray will also be seeking title glory but Craigmillar official Stewart Anderson warned: "It isn't going to be easy as England and Wales are fielding some really tough and experienced boys.''
