Boxing: Arthur to join Buchanan in the gym after fight delay

FORMER WBO super-featherweight boxing champion Alex Arthur has received both good and bad news from his manager Frank Warren about his fighting future.

Arthur, who made an emphatic ring comeback at lightweight by stopping French opponent Mohamed Benbiou in just 92 seconds in Glasgow two weeks ago, said: "The bad news is that my next fight, which was scheduled for July, is off and Frank has told me I won't now fight until around September 12.

"However, the good news is that Frank aims to have me fight three times in the remainder of 2009 – aimed at getting me a world lightweight title fight. So, in the meantime, I'm going back to the Lochend gym to train hard under my coach Terry McCormack."

Arthur will be rubbing shoulders with famous company at Lochend as former world lightweight champion Ken Buchanan is back in training at the gym. The pair have agreed to box a single round in a special sponsorship sparring session against English boxer Nathan Taylor in the Lochend gym on Monday, 27 July. McCormack said: "It is to raise funds for American middleweight Gerard McClellan, who was paralysed and blinded in a title clash with Nigel Benn back in 1995. Taylor is boxing well-known ring stars past and present one round each all over Britain."

The fight will be open to the public with final details being worked on.
