Boxing: Alex Arthur turns back the clock
Edinburgh boxer Alex Arthur has turned back the clock to ensure his future as lightweight.
The former WBO super- featherweight champion is linking up again with his first professional ring coach, Peter Harrison, and sparring with his 2003 British title challenger, Willie Limond.
Explained Arthur: "In preparaton for my return at the Kelvin Hall on 4 September at lightweight I sparred eight tough rounds with Willie at my former coach Peter Harrison's Glasgow gym yesterday.
"Willie, like me, has a crunch fight in September when he fights Mexico's Erik Morales in Mexico City for the WBC International title so we've agreed that I will spar regularly with Limond."
Meanwhile, another Lothians boxer with whom Arthur has been sparring is Queensferry's former British featherweight champion, Paul Appleby, who revealed: "After my 4 September eight-rounder in the Kelvin Hall, I aim to challenge current British super-featherweight champion Gary Sykes for his crown and Lonsdale Belt.
"Then, I'll go after Ricky Burns for his Commonwealth title if he is beaten on 4 September in his attempt to win the WBO belt on the same Kelvin Hall bill.
"I am fit and raring to go."
