Police boxers go head-to-head with their Fire service counterparts
A TEAM of boxers from Lothian & Borders Police will go head-to-head with their counterparts from Lothian & Borders Fire and Rescue Service in a “Battle of the Badges” event at the Corn Exchange tomorrow.
Ken Buchanan, the former undisputed world lightweight champion, is the guest of honour at the charity boxing clash which is in aid of Caudwell Children, a national charity which offers practical and emotional support for children with disabilities.
Earlier this year, the local police force defeated a team of pugilists from the New York Police Department.
Detective Sergeant Mike Leask from Lothian & Borders Police said: “Boxing has grown massively across the police force in the last six months, with more officers wanting to get fit and also raise money for such a good cause as Caudwell Children. The Battle of the Badges event should be fantastic and we are honoured to have Kenny coming along.”
A registered charity since March 2000, Caudwell Children is perceived as one of the country’s fastest growing children charities having provided services worth more than £23 million.
Caudwell Children’s chief executive officer Trudi Beswick said: “The Battle of the Badges events have been a great way to get the emergency services involved in the charity and the attendances at the events held so far have been brilliant. We wish all the boxers the best of luck.”
