Paulin shows his steel at Ravenscraig
Meadowbank’s Eastern lightweight champion Lewis Paulin stole the show at the 2012 Scottish Amateur Intermediate Boxing Championships in Ravenscraig, Motherwell.
Southpaw Paulin’s brilliant performance saw him battle through to the 60kgs final by dominating and widely outscoring his opponents. In his quarter-final, he decked, then oupointed, Danny Morell of the Keir Hardie club by 23-5 then saw off Drumchapel semi-final opponent Jamie McGuire by a massive 29-8 points margin.
Amateur Boxing Scotland regulations prohibit any boxer fighting more than twice on any one day, meaning that Paulin will have to wait for a couple of weeks to contest his title final bout against Glasgow Noble Art’s David Campbell.
Meanwhile, Clovenstone’s Pieyam Khosropour battled into the light-heavyweight final by narrowly outscoring Blantyre’s David Jamieson by 11-10, only to lose to Dennistoun southpaw Kevin Kane 12-4 in the final.
Another narrow loser was Holyrood middleweight Scott Blair, who lost only by computer countback to Aberdeen Granite City club’s James Manders.
In the senior 64kgs final, Holyrood’s Alan Anderson lost to Barrhead’s Steven Rae 9-6, while Tranent Bronx kid Nathan Shaw won the 1999 40 kg title by beating Lochend’s Tommy McCallum by 11-6 points. East Lothain’s Martin Buist lost his 1994 60kgs final to Jordan Pirie.
