Josh Taylor fails in revenge bid

Josh TAYLOR failed to gain revenge over his Olympic opponent Domenico Valentino as the Italian was declared victorious in Saturday night’s World Series Boxing encounter, writes NEIL McGLADE.

The Lochend star was part of the British Lionhearts team that went down 4-1 to Italian Thunder at the Palamaggio arena in Caserta. The result leaves the Brits third in Group B, nine points adrift of table-toppers Astana Arlans of Kazakhstan.

Taylor, 22, performed admirably throughout the lightweight contest and can consider himself unfortunate at being adjudged to have won just one of the five rounds fought.

The British squad next face Astana Arlans in London’s York Hall on Thursday.
