Harrison asks BBBC to return his licence

SCOTT Harrison, the former world featherweight champion, has applied to the British Boxing Board of Control to have his licence reinstated.

Harrison was stripped of his licence a year ago after failing to defend his WBO title against Nicky Cook in London last December because of problems making the weight. BBBC general secretary Simon Block confirmed yesterday that Harrison's application was put before the stewards at a meeting on 14 November.

Block said: "The chairman and I were not present as we were attending the WBC convention but I can confirm that the stewards decided during the course of that meeting that they required further information from Scott Harrison in order to consider his application."

Block refused to say exactly what additional details Harrison has been asked to provide, but it seems reasonable to assume that these concern his impending court cases.

Harrison has been absent from the ring for two years.

The 30-year-old Glaswegian was stripped of his WBO crown in the wake of several well-documented incidents including his imprisonment in Spain on assault charges.

Block said that Harrison, who announced last month that he was ready to make a comeback, has not been asked to appear in person before boxing chiefs.

But he added: "When a written application goes before the Board, if the stewards want to know certain things about the applicant and a decision is possible without an interview he would not be asked to appear.

"But If they [BBBC] want to take the application further no licence would be granted without Scott Harrison appearing before the stewards at some stage."
