Changing room chat: Tyson (no, not that one) ‘chickens out’

FEATHERS were flying in the boxing world yesterday when talks over an all-British heavyweight bout between Tyson Fury and David Price collapsed in acrimony, with the latter’s camp left squawking with anger.

An email sent by Frank Maloney Promotions to The Scotsman sportsdesk refused to call the reigning British champion by his name, accusing him of ducking a clash with Price and adding: “Team Price are extremely disappointed that Chicken Fury has gone clucking away.”

Maloney himself added: “Chicken Fury was going to get the biggest pay of his career to date, and has let himself, his fans and most of all the boxing world down. This is why people are turning against the sport and again politics have ruled what a boxer does”

“[Mick] Hennessy sent out a statement saying that Fury will be pursuing world titles but the nearest Fury will get to winning a world title is having the same nickname as former WBC heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe, who was christened “Chicken” Bowe for clucking away from another British Olympian [Lennox Lewis].”
