Boxing: Brown shows bottle in Kiev

Lochend boxer Aston Brown was narrowly defeated over five rounds as the British Lionhearts went down 4-1 in their World Series Boxing clash with Ukraine Otamans in Kiev.

The middleweight fighter proved more than a match for opponent Olexandr Strets’kyy, winning the final round in what was a real physical encounter, but the Ukrainian was declared the winner by all three judges.

Brown, 21, suffered a nasty cut above his left eye but landing some decent strikes on Strets’kyy on Friday night.

The Lionhearts are third behind Italian Thunder and Group B leaders Astana Arlans Kazakhstan. Victory against bottom franchise USA Knockouts this Thursday evening at London’s York Hall would see the Lionhearts regain second spot for at least 24 hours.
