Boxing: Mitchell takes old foe Fraser the distance
HOLYROOD lightweight Louise Mitchell kept her pledge to ewrite the script of her previous clash with Aberdeen's Kirsten Fraser.
Mitchell, who suffered an inside-the-distance loss to Fraser last November, took the Scottish 60kgs champion all the way to the judges scorecards in the Granite City's Sunnybank club last night.
The Capital boxer produced a great display of toe-to-toe punching which forced Scottish champion Fraser to toil hard for her points win.
Midlothian welterweight Kieran Murphy dominated his Insch club opponent Ethan Forsyth from the first bell and didn't lose a round on his way to a big points win.
His Midlothian clubmate Calum Brownstein was forced to retire in round one against Granite City opponent James Manders while bantamweight Max Niven lost narrowly on points to Inverness rival Andy McKay.
Meanwhile, at the St Andrew's University Student's Union, Leith Victoria light-heavyweight Tom Carter lost a closely-contested bout to Aberdeen Varsity's Matt Donald on points. Similarly, Leith Victoria welterweight, Chris Cullen lost on points to Fifer Steve Cramb of the Madison club.
However, Stewart-Melville middleweight Cameron Hunter stopped the run of eastern defeats by halting St Andrew's opponent Mike Payne with a blistering barrage of punches in round three as did Edinburgh Varsity welterweight Callum Johnston, who outpointed St Andrew's rival William Bond 14-5.
