Boxing: Leith Vics tip Brown for success

LEITH VICTORIA boxing coach Ray Gibson is forecasting that club heavyweight Connor Brown will impress at this weekend's Scottish National Novice championships at the Time Capsule Arena in Coatbridge.

"Connor has impressed our former Scottish light-heavyweight champion, Tom 'The Bomb' Carter in heavy sparring with his boxing skills so we are hopeful that Brown can win a title," said Gibson.

Vics will field five other contenders including Gibson's light-flyweight son Tyler Gibson while Queensferry field light-welterweight Lee Spence. The Sparta club are also well represented with the likes of lightweight Calum Vardy who impressed in victory two weeks ago.

Lee Daykin of Craigmillar is another contender along with Clovenstone's all-action featherweight Ryan McCutcheon.

Because of the record entry of 312 boxers the show has had to be spread over two days. Entry is at the door both days costing 15 per session for adults and 10 for youngsters and concessions, stating at 1.00pm.
