Boxing: Gold aim for Gilmerton duo

SCOTTISH amateur boxing team coach Mark Geraghty has hailed the performances of Gilmerton duo Josh Taylor and Connor McCallum, who have battled through to today's British title finals.

At the championships, for boxers born in 1991/92, at Liverpool's Everton Sports Centre, southpaw Featherweight Taylor widely out-pointed England's Zahin Khan by 9-1 while lightweight McCallum out-boxed his semi-final opponent Alfie Price, also from England, by 6-2. South Queensferry club coach Geraghty said: "Both Taylor and McCallum are guaranteed a Silver medal as finalists but Josh is going to go all out to win the British title against his Welsh opponent Mike Costello as Connor will too against his final rival."

Geraghty's own club fighters, lightweights Lewis Benson and Chris McHale both crashed out of the championships in Friday's semi-finals. McHale went down to Londoner Sam McNess by 4-0 while Benson was defeated 3-1 by England's Jeff Saunders.
