Boxing: Anderson welcomes move by chiefs for David bout
EDINBURGH supermiddlewight Kenny Anderson has welcomed the Board of Boxing Control's decision to nominate him for a British 12-stone title eliminator against Englishman Paul David with a purse bid deadline of 14 October, writes BRIAN DONALD.
And Anderson – contractually a free agent – also revealed that discussions were back on with former world featherweight champion Barry McGuigan who has confirmed a strong interest in helping the 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medal winner get his stuttering career back on course.
Commented Celtic 12 stone champion Anderson: "I'm delighted that the Board of Contriol have nominated me to fight Paul David," said Anderson. "I've seen David a couple of times in action and he is tricky and fast but I'm equally confident that I can and will beat him when we clash.
"One thing that Barry is proposing is that I should participate in the ''Prizefighter'' Tournament for supermiddleweights that has a top prize of 50,000, much more than I've ever earned, but while it's a tempting prospect if I beat Paul David and get a British title shot then I could more money that way overall.
"Still, we will have to see how things pan out with Barry McGuigan but in the meantime, I will be training hard in preparation for my bout with Paul David.''
